The Madison Information Station, located near the Madison Picnic Area, was constructed in 1929 and is now a National Historic Landmark. Previously a museum, site of the Arts Yellowstone program, and intermittently abandoned, the Madison Information Station attained its current role in 1995. The station provides general park information and a bookstore. The site also reportedly rests near the campfire circle of the legendary Washburn-Langford-Doane exploration party. The station is open 9 AM to 5 PM daily from the park’s spring/summer opening through early October.
