Park Entrances

North Entrance: Located just south of Gardiner, Montana on U.S. Highway 89, Yellowstone National Park’s North Entrance is marked with the grandeur of the Roosevelt Arch. An avid conservationist, President Theodore Roosevelt dedicated the fifty-foot tall basalt tower structure in 1903. The elevation at the North Entrance is 5,314 feet (1,608 meters), and the entrance is open all year with no facilities available.

Northeast Entrance: Connecting Cooke City, Montana and Mammoth Hot Springs, the park’s Northeast Entrance is open year-round. The entrance is located at 7,365 feet (2,245 meters) above sea level and features a year-round ranger station.

East Entrance: Situated at an elevation of 6,951 feet (2,119 meters), Yellowstone’s East Entrance is located 52 miles west of Cody, Wyoming on U.S. Highway 14/16/20. The scenic entrance is open from May through the first week in November with facilities including a museum, visitor center, campground, public showers, laundry, general store, service station, auto repair services, a winter warming hut, vending machines, and snowmobile fuel.

South Entrance: Yellowstone National Park’s South Entrance is situated on U.S. Highway 89/191/287 and parallels the Snake River north of neighboring Grand Teton National Park. Nestled at an elevation of 6,886 feet (2,099 meters), the entrance is generally open from mid-May through the first week of November. Facilities include a visitor center, ranger station, campgrounds, boat ramps, post office, general store, auto repair and towing services, food, lodging, laundry, public showers, and an amphitheater.

West Entrance: The park’s West Entrance is located on the fringes of West Yellowstone, Montana and boasts a scenic elevation of 6,667 feet. The West Entrance is generally open to automobiles from the end of April through the first week in November. During winter months, the West Entrance is a popular launching area for snowmobiles and snowcoach tours.
